I am often asked which this-or-that to buy, and because I do not yet have a retail outlet I am severely limited in what I can test and stock.

Recommended Printers for 2025:

Tank-style Inkjet:

MegaTank PIXMA G3290

MegaTank PIXMA G3290
Canon MegaTank PIXMA G3290

Personal Experience: I own a Pixma wide-format printer and it’s a workhorse. My experiences with Canon has shown them to be a solid brand; however driver installations can be complicated and ink is crazy expensive. I have owned several Pixma printers in my lifetime and, aside from the terrible ink costs, I’ve had no complaints.

Reliability: Canon Pixma printers have been very reliable. Expect 3-5 years of life with medium-duty use.

Parts Availability/Repairable: Canon offers a direct line for parts sales. The print head and maintenance heads are the only user-replaceable items.

Cost of Operation: Bottled ink costs less, lasts longer, and can be substituted with generic branded ink to save you money. While Canon says that you will get 6,000 black & white pages or 7,700 color pages, reality is you will get about half of that. In fact, 7,700 is the combined color bottle amount, so 7,700 divided by 3 gives us a more accurate number of around 2500 pages per color bottle. If you are printing rainbows and/or black bears attacking a black forest campground at midnight, expect print costs to be slightly higher.
